Acupuncture at Jefferson Street Family Practice
Carol Jackson, L.Ac. is
licensed by the Texas Board of Medical Examiners to practice Acupuncture,
Chinese Herbal Medicine and Oriental Bodywork. She completed her Masters at the Academy
of Oriental Medicine at Austin in 2004 and received her B.S. in Landscape
Architecture from TexasA&MUniversity
in 1980. She brings many years of
nutritional training to her practice to accompany the herbal prescriptions,
bodywork and lifestyle suggestions that are included in her treatments.
Carol has raised three beautiful children and is currently
enjoying “empty nesting,” gardening and cooking with her singer/songwriter
husband.
There are many styles of acupuncture.Carol uses a Japanese style influenced by
Kiiko Matsumoto.The needles used in
Japanese style treatments are thinner and insertion is delicate.Effectiveness of treatment relies on precise
point location and often the addition of a stimulus from heat rather than
twirling the needle strongly.
Acupuncture and Pain:
Injured muscles and tendons tighten in response to untreated
pain.As the muscles tighten, they exert
pressure, twisting and turning the supporting structures and creating further
problems in the body.Eventually,
untreated injuries may cause the greatest discomfort upstream or downstream from
the original site, creating a confusing clinical picture.Acupuncture and bodywork can treat multiple
sites, helping to address multiple manifestations of the injury.Once the tightened structures become
readjusted and more elastic, circulation is restored, and the tissues get more
oxygen, allowing metabolic wastes to flush away.
Allergy, Digestive,
Women’s, Emotional, and Circulatory Issues are just a few of the many other
things that oriental medicine can address.
Some of Carol’s acupuncture or bodywork services may be
covered by your insurance plan.If you
are interested, please call our schedulers at (512) 459-4147.
The more centered you can be during your acupuncture
treatment the better the outcome so please avoid stimulants or pain medication
before your appointment if possible.
